The Stradic from Shimano is a very popular reel with anglers around the world. The Stradic FL is the latest version of this model to be released, and it is stacked with the latest Shimano reel technology.

A significant change from previous models, is the introduction of a long stroke spool. This has resulted in an increased casting distance, which is proving very popular among anglers.

Another area of improvement is the corrosion resistance. Significant effort has been made in the design process to keep water out of the critical parts of the reel. This makes the reel perfect for use in harsh saltwater environments, and equally at home in freshwater. The Stradic is the perfect reel for kayak and jetski fishing, being able to handle the high exposure to saltwater.

The reel comes with 7 ball bearings, combined with a carbon drag system, producing a maximum drag of 7 lbs. – 24 lbs. depending on the reel size. This all combines to produce a very smooth, lightweight, high performance reel. Which is what expect from the much loved Stradic range.

Our Review:

The Stradic line of reels has always been a strong workhorse in the Shimano line up. In our opinion this is the smoothest version of this reel so far. All versions of Stradic’s have given anglers years of faithful service, and this version will be no different. This is another reliable spinning reel that will become the back bone of much of your fishing.

This version of the reel casts extremely well, being very smooth, which converts into a very good casting distance. In fact like many other owners of this new version of the reel, this may be one of the smoothest reels you’ve ever owned! That is a big statement to make, but it emphasizes how smooth this reel is.

This reel will take all the abuse that you can throw at it, all day long. Like any reel, you can’t and shouldn’t fully immerse it in water. But the reel will handle water spray very well when fishing in the surf or from a kayak. All the internals will be kept dry. This also makes cleaning the reel very easy after a long days fishing.

This is another solid performer from Shimano. The 2019 Stradic continues with it’s reliable and smooth pedigree. If you’re looking for a very smooth reel that will last you for years, then we highly recommend you take the Stradic into consideration
